Big Leaf Cowl
This very simple cowl is knit with a super-bulky weight yarn (5-6 wpi), on 6.5mm needles and should knit up very quickly. You can choose how many repeats to do for a looser or snugger effect. My example has five repeats and is 72.5cm long and 17.5cm wide.

Materials:
~ Super-bulky yarn
~ 6.5mm needles or needles to match your chosen yarn
~ Three large buttons
Gauge: 10 stitches (7.5cm) by 10 rows (6.5cm), but gauge isn't critical for this piece! ^-^
Written Instructions:
Repeat the directions within the * as many times as you want leaves in your cowl.
Note: Rows 5, 18, and 30 are button hole rows. For button holes, pick one side of the seed stitch border to have the button holes on. Instead of the usual seed stitch (k,p,k,p,k), work k2tog, k, double yarn over, k2tog. When coming back over these, work them as seed stitch as normal.

Chart Instructions:
The chart shows all the even rows, which are have all the working on them. The odd rows are simply following what's in front of you. Seed stitch border for five stitches, then knit the knits and purl the purls as you see them. Row 1, however, is k,p,k,p,k, *knit 17*, k,p,k,p,k
Cast on 95 stitches for five leaves on your cowl. Repeat the 17 pattern stitches as many times as you want leaves in your cowl, and knit the seed stitch border on both sides.
Note: Rows 5, 18, and 30 are button hole rows. Choose one side of the seed stitch border to have the button holes on. Instead of the usual seed stitch (k,p,k,p,k), work k2tog, k, double yarn over, k. When coming back over these, work them in seed stitch as normal.

Finishing:
Block cowl, weave in ends, sew on buttons, and you're done!
